Configuration: Silver Wiping

This is a guide on adding a configuration to your slicing settings that will add wiping during long silver traces in a layer.

When printing a part with many silver features on a layer, silver can start to collect on the syringe tip. This can lead to clumps of silver falling into the part, and can also cause very narrow traces to be printed too wide. Consider adding this Config, which will increase the number of wipe commands inserted within a silver layer. The value shown is the length of silver that will be printed before a wipe is inserted. Lowering the value will result in more frequent wiping.

We recommend testing this on short prints to see how it affects your individual prints.

See this article for more detailed information about adding configurations.

  1. Log into dashboard, and click on the 'Configs' option at the top of the window.
2. Click on the 'New Config' button at the center top of the window.
3. In the new window, enter a name for your config, I recommend "AG Wiping Frequency", and paste the following exactly as it appears into the box labeled 'JSON', to result in what looks like the attached photo.
  "tools": {
    "1": {
      "midlayer_wipe_after_distance": 30
4. Note that in this Config, the number corresponds to the distance in mm that the Silver Cartridge will print before initiating a wiping procedure. You may adjust this as you find necessary, just remember to save it every time you do. Additionally, once this is saved, a GUI populates with a simple box to edit the value, rather than loading the JSON text every time.
5. Returning to the 'Builds' section of Dashboard, select the build you wish to wipe more frequently.
6. Without selecting any of the parts, select the 'Add Config" button at the right. Then, using the drop down menu, select the config you wish to use.
7. Re-slice your file, and send it to printer to utilize this, or any other configs you create.
Notes about this particular config: wipe commands will only be inserted when the silver retracts between areas of silver. A wipe command would not be inserted in the middle of a large patch of infill, even if the wipe after distance is exceeded.
